Solvay ensured the development of its fluorinated products through the acquisition of a fluorine mine in Chiprovtsi On 22.02.2011, Solvay announced the acquisition of calcium fluorite mine in Chiprovtsi, Montana region. The concession contract covers the transfer of all exploration and production rights. The mine currently employs 107 people working in the mining operations and other industrial activities in Chiprovtsi, near the Serbian border. The goal is to increase the production of fluorspar to at least 50 000 tons / year by the end of 2011. The fluorspar is the most important raw material for production of hydrofluoric acid, which takes place in the production of fluorine chemicals and polymers, and the production of ceramics, optics, plastics, pharmaceuticals and paints, metallurgical treatment of bauxite, and other electrical components. Acid is the key ingredient in the processing of aluminum and uranium. Regular production of the mine started in June 2011.The first batch of one-ton containers of soft CaF2 were shipped in late July for a plant of Solvay ''Porto Maguerra" in Italy. *** With this strategic investment Solvay enhances its possibilities for raw materials supplying for its activities in the field of chemical products and fluorinated polymers and their future development, acquiring a new source of raw material, which will serve as a basis for growth of the market of fluorite products, where the trend is for growing demand, especially in Asia.
